Rauw Alejandro
In the year 2017 Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi as well as Daddy Yankee released Despacito and it became the most-streamed song at the time within six months. It was a mixture of pop music and reggaeton has not just brought interest to reggaeton, but also drew interest to Latin music in general. Billboard's Top 100 had four songs mainly in Spanish in 2016, compared to two in 2015. In the midst of Despacito's fame in 2017 there were 19 predominantly Spanish tracks which made it into the Top 100. And in 2020 it was 41. In the wake of Justin Bieber's dual remix of Despacito (2017) famous artists soon began collaborating with reggaeton artists, including Drake and Bad Bunny on MIA (2018) as well as Madonna and Maluma for Medellin (2019). In the year 2020, some Reggaeton performers were expressing displeasure about the advancing of the genre toward the mainstream.
